It also helps in extending (straightening) your knee as much as you can. I don't understand why the pull cord is elasticized. But, that's okay. It doesn't detract from the unit. A plain cord however, would do just as well. I like this unit very much and the price is right. I plan to use it at least once daily to keep my "new" knee from freezing up. I highly recommend this unit. The next step up would be a more expensive hand hydraulic unit, like can be found in many physical therapy gyms.
