Totally agree with one of the reviewers that sadly its let down by Melissa seeing what she sees in the photo and the timeline. It kept my attention because I wanted to know what happened; what was GOING to happen, but I wasn’t gripped. It was okay though because it was a simmering plot and it worked well for me.The characters worked well together. When they gelled it was beautiful, and when there was stress between them you could feel it yourself as the reader, because Douglas makes you feel like you’re in the mind of the characters; feeling everything along with them - sometimes even empathising with them when they’re wrong.Douglas writes an intricately-woven story that is a beauty to unravel. The tension builds gradually, and with the help of a dual timeline (something I don’t usually enjoy but with this book absolutely LOVED), new events and characters were unearthed (no pun intended), and we realise things aren’t quite as they seem. The last third of this book had me totally gripped.Unusual for me, but I worked out the twist at about 75%, but it didn’t ruin it for me; it made it more exciting and eager to get to the “unveiling” of the truth.
