Get the 'dimple' in the flywheel dead centre and the timing pin will slide right in. Be sure to use the right pin for your car (I believe one is for an automatic and one for a manual). My car is a manual and the pin with the larger diameter body fitted perfectly, whereas the narrower one was not tight.
