I thought I could cut my ring off my finger myself but as turns out you need two people to do the job. You got to be able to squeeze the pliar handle and turn the cutter wheel requiring two extra hands. It only took a couple of minutes and a perfect cut was made. I then took a wide blade flat screw driver placed in the gap of the new cut and twisted the gap apart enough to get my finger out. The ring cutter was cheaper than going to a jeweler and now I can use it again. It came with an extra cutter blade. It already paid for itself. Will it cut through?d** A: I can only speak to my own experience. My ring was white gold and between1/4" and 1/2". The blade that turns is very sharp and I was patient once I saw it was going through a little at a time. In about 20 minutes, I had cut through but I still could not open/stretch the ring to get it off. So the next evening, I cut through the ring on the other side so now it's in two pieces. I think sterling silver is a little harder than gold and not sure if the 3/4" width will also make a difference. The ring cutter came with an extra blade. I did not use it but you may have to. All I can say is the ring had to come off and doing it myself worked for me without going to a jeweler. I found out in my area, the E.R. and Emergency Services do not do this unless it's a medical emergency, meaning that all circulation in my finger would have to be cut off. Best of luck to you!
