My first Luminaria candle came with a remote, and this one does not have one. But, my original remote also works with this candle as it was 'remote ready' when I bought it. I have had other types of battery candles that used either ' two C' or two 'AA' batteries, which seem to last only about a month using the timer function of 'on 4 hours, off 20'. Another 5" I have one of a different brand that uses three AAA batteries with a timer only lasts 3 weeks at best, using the timer of 5 on/19 off. That's around 105 hours and requires frequent battery changing. The Luminaria advertises 500 hours with the timer function of 5 hours on, 19 off in use!! I have only used it with the remote function since I rarely need it on for 5 hours at a time. ..but have occasionally left it on longer before remembering to turn it off. I highly recommend these Luminaria candles. They are so realistic you can hardly believe they are not the real thing. I thought my older, smaller candle, the one that uses AAA batteries and has a flame similar to the Luminaria's, was realistic looking UNTIL I bought a genuine Luminaria and realized there is no comparison. They are perfect on a mantel, or any other setting where you don't need a 360 degree view of the candle. The flame device is flat and the candle top is sloped downward a little from back to front, so the front view is the most ideal. I understand there is a 360 degree view Luminaria out now, but haven't actually seen one of those in use. These are just wonderful, safe candles which give the illusion of beautiful candlelight.
