From the manufacturer MAXI-FILTRA Air Admittance Valve The Studor MAXI-FILTRA is a two-way vent which filters air in both directions. It is designed for outdoor used only on septic tanks and lift stations. It is UV rated and comes with a replaceable carbon filter to eliminate bad odors. The MAXI-FILTRA is for outdoor use only, particularly for use with septic systems, but can also be installed on existing open vent pipes and in systems in which air admittance valves (AAVs) are installed.The MAXI-FILTRA, as part of the Studor System eliminates sewer gases from entering buildings or polluting surrounding areas. Can be installed vertically or horizontally Outdoor use only Contains replaceable carbon filter that can last up to two years Fits 3" or 4" pipe UV Rated Flexible Installation The MAXI-FILTRA can be installed vertically or horizontally. It can also be retro-fitted in an existing plumbing system provided that all design and installation criteria are met. Replaceable Carbon Fiber Filter Cartridge The MAXI-FILTRA contains a replaceable carbon fiber filter cartridge which can last up to 2 years. **Q: can it be mounted outside upside down?**
A: I believe this would allow water to sit inside it and affect it's capability to work properly. Also, if you live in a cold climate then it could freeze.

**Q: Is this an actual air admittance valve, or simply a charcoal filter?**
A: It's both a vent and a filter. I use it to keep rain and snow out of the venting system. The air comes out the bottom of the cap. Works fine for me.

**Q: Does this include the filter cartridge? Thanks**
A: Yes - it includes the filter.

**Q: Is it a 2’’ Studor vent?**
A: No, 4"
