I can tell you that I use a couple of these dispensers for antibacterial hand soap, which is fairly viscous. They work quite well in that capacity. **Q: How wide is the base?** A: The base is about 3 inches. Hope this helps. **Q: There is a rubber gasket-like ring at the bottom to keep it from sliding on a wet surface, but mine fell off and went missing. Can this be replaced?** A: I would contact OXO, their customer service has been extremely cooperative with a similar issue I had with one of their products. Sent out the replacement part immediately, no charge, no questions asked. They stand behind their products. **Q: how do you fill it with soap?** A: The top spout easily twists off, you fill it with soap and twist it back on. Wide opening so filling is easy.
