It turned out great! My house was completely wired for telephone service when it was built, and there are lots of phone outlets throughout the house, but I turned off my land line about four or five years ago. I plugged the Magic Jack into the phone outlet near my router (instead of into a single phone, as the instructions indicate). Now all the jacks in my house work, and I have phones hooked up all over -- all with a single Magic Jack! Also, to push Magic Jack to its limits, I wanted to have a phone near my computer. But naturally, that wall outlet was being taken up by the Magic Jack line that was connected to my router. So, on a hunch, I invested a few dollars in a splitter. (Look up "phone splitter" on desertcart for some examples.) Then I connected the Magic Jack to one of the splitter outlets, a telephone to the second splitter outlet, then plugged the splitter into the wall. Amazingly, the Magic Jack continued to work, and I now have a working phone right next to my router, as well as working phones throughout the rest of my three-story house. Frankly, I'm a little surprised that the splitter idea worked. I'm no engineer, and I'm not sure how the single wall outlet near my router can shoot the Magic Jack signal into the wall and throughout my house, then send it back out to a phone next to my router. But, somehow, it does. Magic Jack doesn't seem to advertise this multi-phone feature for its product. It appears from online discussions that some people have trouble setting it up, due to house wiring or other issues, so Magic Jack probably doesn't want to oversell its product. But I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, because it worked great for me. Your results may vary. But it shouldn't be any problem to at least hook up one phone, and combined with the phone number and voicemail applications, this was money well spent. Review: TOTALLY FALSE ADVERTISEMENT - TOTALLY FALSE ADVERTISEMENT: It states------ "Keep Your Current Number Port your existing phone number and avoid the hassle of notifying all of your contacts" Set up fairly easy. Tried to Port existing phone number, and said I could not at this time and to try later. Contacted per text to Magicjack (Should note that had contacted prior to instillation with question and took 20 min to get through) and did get quick response this time and they said to finish registration, get the MAGIC JACK PHONE NUMBER OFFERED, did this and still would not allow me to port my old phone number. No other reason given. Recontacted Magicjack and their only answer was I could not port my phone number and to try later, and would not tell me how much later, and no other reason given. JUST WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO DO IT. By the way, Magicjack will definitely give you a weird phone number (do not use the 01 unless someone overseas is calling you, and besides continue reading)----you can call out----but try using that number from another phone and call yourself, and will not allow you to do this either. So do not that take this particular offer. There are other offers besides taking their phone number option. When my son calls me long distance, he only reaches me. How could that number be in use already. VERY FRUSTRATING. Again, Magicjack advertises you can port your home phone number-------why do they not let know that this may not happen, give you a way to check it out if your home phone number can or cannot be ported. We had problems with our Cells connecting. We connected our old wireless phones to the phone line required to MJ. We signed up for a dedicated number for our house phone. What can I say? It makes phone calls. No surprises there. However, be aware of two things: 1) You will most likely have to pay extra for 911 service. This isn't a big deal, it's pretty cheap. But if you're buying this as a backup to your cell phone, don't leave that part out. And there's no way to test that it actually works. Here's hoping. 2) The software it installs on your computer is nearly impossible to remove. It's like a virus, and it doesn't come with an uninstall button. So be careful where you install it for setup.
