Often materials will bleed and that can lead to discoloring of other fabrics when washed together. I wash all new fabric individually with a Color Catcher. If the color catcher is discolored, I treat it with Retayne. One treatment is almost always sufficient. I then wash it again individually with a color catcher. I followed the instructions for making the fabric colorfast, but still get some bleeding** A: Retayne or Synthropol is used normally when you wash the fabric prior to cutting the fabric out for your project to help set the color, preventing the colors from bleeding to other fabric. I now use a color catcher sheet and small amt of gentle detergent, and rinse with vinegar. lightly dry or let it dry on its own, then press. **Q: should I use synthrapol and retayne at the same time for prewashing fabric?** A: We recommend using the Synthrapol in a hot 140F wash to flush out any excess dye from the cloth that has been dyed. Retayne is used to treat commercial fabric that tends to bleed easily, especially reds. That treatment will help to lock in the color so that the fabric does not bleed when cared for. The treated fabric needs to be washed in cold water only. **Q: Can I use this for prevent jeans bleeding on my white sneakers?** A: You can treat your jeans with Retayne as long as it is applied to the jeans at 140F water. Synthropol is the only product that I know of that will take the bleed out and it is not guaranteed to take it out. If it has been dried it will be difficult to remove the run.
