Looking for at a black filter about 11/2"-2" thick, and can be cut in a strip about 1" wide and about 4' long** A: It's about 6"x6" square and 1" thick. I didn't measure, but that's within a half inch on the side measurements, and a quarter inch of the thickness1. So, no, you won't be able to get a 4' strip from it. You can buy filter material that is not cut down so small already, so that you can make custom shapes/sizes. I don't know of any that come large enough to make a 4', but perhaps a place that sells to professional aquariums would carry stuff that big. **Q: Do these contain carbon?** A: This product does not contain carbon. **Q: which kind of material is this foam? No issues at all. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review *by R***R on 23 October 2013* We have a 55 Gal tank with a Rena XP2 filter unit. From bottom to top we use 2-20s then 2 30s, in the next basket it's the activated charcoal then the bio chem stars with two Micro filtration pads to finish it off. Works extremely well.
