One large one? a few small ones? or is there a specified size reccommended?** A: I molded an object with a volume of 37 ounces but it took a set and 1/4 of another set of these bottles. Safe bet that if you have a model with a displacement greater than the one I did, you need two sets. Some find the simplest way is to pour rice around your model then pour the rice into measuring cups to get a better idea of how much. The hollow mold that I made was about 11.5 inches high and 4 inches in diameter with a width of 1 inch on the sides and bottom of the mold. So.. to encapsulate a volume of 37 ounces with enough material so that the mold was free standing it was a set and 1/4 of silicone at the least. My mold did not have a top though, with a top, it would have been a set and a half, no question about it. **Q: is this heat resistant?** A: Not positive but aren't all silicones heat resistant. Great product. **Q: How many ounces is each bottle?** A: It is sold and labeled in Lbs.Part A is 1.2lbs and Part B is 1.6lbs and I can't find any label that provides info regarding ounces. The dimensions are almost the same size as a 16 oz bottle so it's close to 16oz per bottle but that it an estimate. Sorry I can't provide more info. **Q: Is it enough liquid to make a 12" vinyl record mold?** A: One would probably be enough, but it would be a thin coat. Use them all at once , othervise they will dry out soon. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing for beginner mold makers- and some tips! *by C***E on 18 January 2025* I am a doll sculptor teaching myself how to make replica parts of my pieces to expedite production, and I've experimented with a few different products for casting parts and replicating them: none of them beat out the results I got with Smooth-On! The 1:1 ratio is very simple and while you will waste some product in your first couple of rounds, you very quickly begin to be able to eyeball the measurements per mold; I've made 5 now and I can pour without weighing the pieces, without wasting product. I began with using foam core and hot glue to create the vessels in which to pour the silicone onto the pieces, but it was very messy and time consuming; I now swear by using Lego bricks instead and wrapping the edges of them with Frog Tape to avoid leakage. I haven't had any issues with curing, perhaps because every time I pour I mix each part in their respective pots for about 30 seconds before I pour to mix them. I'll then use wooden skewers to mix them together for about a minute before preparing to pour. I use a small spatula to help get the silicone off the sides of the mixing cup as I pour, ensuring I use as much product as possible per batch. Two-part molds have been easy and amazing with this. Just be sure to use sulphur-free clay and make keys in the clay before making your first mold part. As for the second part, I have the best results with simple Vaseline; I use a cheap paintbrush to apply the Vaseline to the mold and get into every crevice. I've had molds ruined with mold release spray not working well enough, but never had a single issue separating my mold parts with Vaseline. Smooth-On also makes my favorite material to cast my molds: their Liquid Plastic! The drying time is very fast and I can easily sand off the seams with fine grit sandpaper and buff it with a polisher. If I need to patch anything up, I can use air dry epoxy clay.
