It mearly lets you choose from the already available output options and converts that to a clean HDMI output. So with the PS2 you are limited to RGB/Component (480p / 576i). I leave mine on component setting and it seems to work fine. The picture is in no way 'HD' by today's standards, but it's much cleaner and crisper than my previous method which was a RGB SCART cable and a billion times better than the standard 'red white yellow' composite AV cables that came supplied with most PS2s. You'll probably notice some fuzziness to text etc and cut scenes will generally be of low video quality anyway, but importantly actual game graphics are pretty damn good. Not quite to standard of my now sadly dead backwards compatible fat PS3, but good enough.
