As someone else posted mine did not arrive with a pouch, but I have a little wooden box I can use for display, and for travel you can just barely pack this into a clean Altoids tin if you are VERY careful and gentle with it. The string does seem delicate, so using a hard protective container is probably best if you need to take it somewhere and want to preserve it from snagging on things and getting frayed.
