But the statin caused my muscles and joints to ache. I would be awakened with aching thigh muscles, then hand and side aches. When I told her about this she said for me to keep trying it because the statins did bring down those numbers significantly. But who wants to go through life hurting! So I researched homeopathic remedies and came upon the advice to take Niacin. I also found how much I was to take for it to be effective. The dosage is quite high at 3500 to 4600 mg per day. Obviously I had to build my tolerance by taking smaller dosages and increasing it as my body adjusted. At first I tried the flush free type but it didn't work at all. I'd read that taking time released is not good for the liver, so i looked for regular Niacin and found this vendor. I started with 100mg per day and within a month and a half I'd gotten up to 4000mg per day. I've been on that dosage for two years now and it has kept my cholesterol and triglycerides in check. My new doctor expressed compliments that I'd research and found my own remedy. He agreed that I shouldn't take statins considering their negative impact on my body. And he is very pleased with the results I'm achieving. His one worry is that Niacin is not known for protecting the heart the way statins supposedly do. So I take a large dose of krill oil each day and my HDL went up to the 80s which means my heart is being protected. The price and convenience of ordering 1000mg capsules is why I get these through Amazon. The quality is obviously there with my results these past two years. The doctor suggested that I should start taking statins for lowering the high LDL count. I was determined to lower this reading through natural means and started reading voraciously on the subject. It seems that higher amounts of Niacin has a positive effect on lowering bad cholesterol, in fact one of the few supplements that has actually received positive comments from health professionals as well.After using this product diligently for two years, I have lowered by bad cholesterol and boosted the HDL cholesterol.I used it in conjunction with fish oil supplements, cinnamon, exercising, and changing my diet, It has worked for me and the subsequent blood panel results have shown improved readings.Many folks use this in conjunction with statins but as usual I would consult your own doctor before using supplements or any medication. I am not a medical professional.This product does however cause some flushing at times. However, the flushing is inconsistent and does not happen every day. I usually use Bulk Supplements pure niacin powder but bought these tablets for convenience while traveling. If there is ANY niacin in these tablets, I couldn't tell. I took them for two of my three daily doses. There was no flush and no alleviation of symptoms. The next morning, I went back to the powdered niacin and got a severe flush, a sure sign that histamines had built back up due to low niacin levels. Either this is a bad batch or Twinlab needs to examine the practices of its manufacturers (probably some poison from China.)
