I have had mine for 22 years and have never needed a new battery. The batteries power is restored by the solar. If you think you need to replace the battery it can be replaced on the back of the calculator with 4 small screws. Not sure of the type since I have never had to replace mine but you can look there. **Q: Does it come with a hard cover?** A: Yes, It does come with hard cover **Q: If you attempt a square root that is not a perfect square will it simplify or not? (I.E. square root of 45) I need to know this for my finals.** A: Ms. Fitzpatrick, your question concerning the TI-30X IIS is "Will it simplify (e.g. square root of 45)?" The short answer is NO. The TI-30X IIS will display 6.708203932 for the square root of 45.The square root of 45 in its simplest radical form is/would be 3ã5. However, the TI-30XS will display 3ã5 as a resultant of square root of 45. The cheaper calculator ate batteries, would only operate on solar in the brightest of conditions, and was just useless.
