That is the only thing holding me back from purchasing right now.** A: If you read the description you will see that is not a quality control issue. It is a design feature. I use hand planes for planning wood. The correct way to hone a plane iron is exactly how these blades are designed to function. A plane iron is supposed to have a very subtle curve so that the corners don't contact the wood and leave gouge marks. It works much better than have the iron sharpened with a flat straight edge. I have not yet received my razor to give you first hand advise, but from the other reviews it seems that this design works very well. **Q: Is the base plate still zamak?** A: Yes sir, the baseplate is made from a zinc alloy. The head, butterfly doors and handle are made from brass. The spring is 304 stainless steel. **Q: What is the purpose of the non-matching safety bars? One side is smooth and the other is like a comb.** A: According to the manufacturer, the comb side provides a slightly more aggressive attack for areas of your face that can tolerate it. The smooth side is for areas that are more sensitive. Think of the adjustable collar as the overall aggressiveness of the razor and the two sides as the fine tuning of that. **Q: What razor stand will this fit on?
