Would it at least give him a challenge?** A: Yes! I'm over 40 & really enjoyed playing with this so much that my 10 & 8 yr old were asking if I was done yet. **Q: are these magnets? how do they stay together?** A: No they are not magnets. Each colored piece is a single piece. Each color is a different shape. The case has a side that is a grid of holes that the pieces lay into to stay together. This is an EXCELLENT logic game for children and adults. **Q: Do pieces they stick together?** A: I'm not sure what you mean by this. The puzzle consists of Tetris like pieces. They are not magnetic. **Q: Can you still do the puzzle if some of the pieces are lost? Those little balls look like they would be easy to lose.** A: Each piece consists of balls of the same color - they are all "glued" together, not a whole bunch of individual balls rolling around.
