The top ramp slides down and back up again. I does not 'hold' while in the up position unless the lower ramp or door is closed. That lower ramp, when folded up, holds the top ramp in place. The lower ramp sort of snaps into the truck. I will say, however, it isn't a very 'tight' locking mechanism but it does hold the top ramp in. Hope this helps. **Q: Are Green Toys fair trade certified?** A: I don’t believe that “fair trade certified” applies to toys. It’s a term usually used for food (like coffee and chocolate). Green toys are made from recycled #2 plastics and made in the US. They’re very nice toys.
