**Q: Is this one or two speakers**
A: There are 2 speakers in the package. I installed them in my son's car and he says "They sound dope." Whatever that means. Lol

A: No they do not need an amp, they will replace factory door speakers, they would sound better with an amp though.

**Q: What's the purpose of the front speaker cover for?  For just looks or protects the soaker foam?**
A: I would assume it would be for protection if the speaker was exposed.  I didn't need them because my speakers are protected by the door panels covers

Great sound for a good price. They are the correct size for my 99 Dodge Dakota, however the Dakotas have a proprietary mounting system, so they were not exactly drop in. They seem to have great lower and good quality build, they’re quite heavy!
