Our filter is designed to remove free chlorine from hot water showers. This is a very difficult thing to do. The only effective medium for doing this, KDF was discovered in the 1990's. You can read about it on the KDF website KDFFL. KDF is uses a copper/zinc alloy catalyst to break apart the toxic chlorine molecule (and free chlorine) into safe chloride ions that easily dissolve in the water and are safely washed away without interacting with your body's cells. Chloramine, which consists of a mixture of chlorine and ammonia, is also susceptible to this catalytic action. This catalytic action happens faster (better) at higher temperatures. QwenchPure Shower filters also reduce scale, the crystalized build up of calcium and other minerals. The KDF catalyst modifies the crystal structure of the scale compound (calcium carbonate), changing it from calcite to aragonite, in this form the aragonite stays suspended if the water and does not form as much scale on surfaces. Our filter works best in hot water as the catalytic action is faster at higher temperatures. No filter will remove 100% of all contaminates. Any filter hot water shower filter that claims to remove all chlorine and chloramine is very suspect, most likely they are not able to fully test their end results. **Q: Since replacing the filter cartridge my shower is making a high-pitched whistle when the water is on. Did I install it wrong?** A: We have heard of this once before. The customer fixed it by removing the filter, making sure there was nothing up inside the pipe restricting the flow, (there was an o-ring stuck up in the pipe that he removed), then putting it back on. His shower head actually made the noise when the water flow was slightly restricted. Does it happen with the shower head itself removed? Easy to install, no decrease in water pressure and markedly reduced chlorine content. However, I had difficulty unscrewing the shell to replace the cartridge. Made me wish I had just bought an entirely new filter for the $5 price difference. I'll do that next time. Mainly I'm unhappy with the decreased water pressure, about 30% I'd estimate.
