To fell a tree you would be much better off with a chainsaw. A purpose built felling axe such as a Plumb, Kelly, Gilpin, Gransfors is the alternative but you would need to be very skilled and fit to use one No doubt Fiskars would manufacture good felling axes but the Iso Core is not suitable for felling. **Q: How does it compare to the popular fiskar x27?** A: It's a different altogether. I own both and the maul is a heavy beast! I like that that 8 lb maul's Iso Core handle absorbs vibration much better than the X27mif the wood you are trying to split is tough like twisted elm and you need repeated strikes. The X27 is a shorter and it is a much lighter axe(not a maul) to swing making it great for splitting straight grained wood.
