The blade is sharp enough but you risk the cards slipping a little and then you edges will look bad. I do this to photographic paper but I can cut three manually about as quick and three stacked. Then I don't have to worry about any waste. Cut one card badly and the time it takes and the cost of loosing one card and your better off cutting one at a time. This is a great little cutter and I find a use for it almost every day. I don't know what I would do without it. It's one of the best buys on Amazon. Good luck, I hope this has been helpful. Its length is about 19 1/2 inches long which includes the length of the handle when in the down position.. I needed something that was accurate, and that was easy to use for cutting smaller sizes for creating custom ATC layers. I have quite a few trimmers, but they're all either rotary or the ones with the tiny blade. And I was afraid that a bypass trimmer might be cause my paper to shift as I was cutting, or be a bit less accurate than my other trimmers. Well, this trimmer works perfectly! I've used it to trim paper, cardstock, layered cardstocks, and even encaustic wax covered cardstock, which can gum up the blades of rotary and sliding blade trimmers, with excellent results. I get a perfect cut, no ripping or tearing anywhere on the cut. I'm very glad I made this purchase, it was reasonably priced, small enough to be easy to store, and does an excellent job.
