Fresh Mood Moss (Hylocomium splendens) is a sustainably harvested, live moss perfect for terrariums, bonsai, and creative plant decor. Packaged in resealable bags with an included care guide, it thrives in shaded, moist environments and adds lush, natural texture to any indoor garden or craft project.

## Description

Slight earthy smell. Can be attached with string, hot glue, or wire. Used in scale modeling, home decor, plant arrangements, accent pieces, crafting, and fairy gardens. This Mood Moss (Hylocomium splendens) was carefully and sustainable harvested directly from the lush green hills of Appalachia. Each order is carefully hand packed by our greenhouse in resealable bags to ensure the integrity of your moss pillows during shipment. Though your moss is fresh and alive, you will notice that your moss may not be wet to the touch. We ship live moss this way to reduce mold and bacteria growth in transit. Upon receipt, we advise that you use your moss immediately in your tank, terrarium, bonsai, kokedama, or fairy garden. Historical Uses: In the past, moss from this area was used to chink cabins, stuff mattresses, and line both cradles and coffins. Currently, the horticultural trade uses moss as packing material, hanging basket liners, and soil covers for potted plants or terrariums. Moss is also used in arts and crafts and in moss gardens and green roofs. Moss Structure: Moss is actually catchall phrase for over 12,000 different species of non-vascular plants in the plant Division Bryophyta (sensu stricto). The plants are low growing, and rarely reach above a few centimeters in height. This plant relies mainly on spore-based propagation methods. Moss is most notable for using a single of layer of cells which lack internal air spaces for photosynthesis, and using rhizoids instead of roots to anchor them to the substrate.

Entire top part is green but one inch or so beneath is not usable - which I think is natural due to lighting. Cost is little high for this quantity but got it anyway for a terrarium I'm making. Over all I'm satisfied with the quality I received.👌🏻 But... It could have been cleaner.. There a lot of sticks and twigs in the moss clumps. A good clean up is required before using..🙁 But, as mentioned, it does not have any instructions attached to the package and not packed in resealable bag..🙄

**Q: Exactly how much moss do you get with this order?**
A: Probably a 12 to 15 inch square of moss.

**Q: Is there any kind of moss that will grow in direct sunlight?**
A: Sure, look around where you live and you will see moss growing in full sunlight. Fire moss is an example and grows in cracks in concrete in sidewalks, etc. However, mood moss is very sensitive to sunlight.

**Q: how do i keep it alive?**
A: It's really easy Ravi, just use a water bottle with a spray nozzle and spray it once or twice a week. Less if you are using it in a terrarium. Enjoy!

**Q: Does this have any insecticide? I want to put some moss in the terrarium of my pet praying mantis, but I want to make sure it's safe**
A: Moss is treated with an organic repellent to reduce stowaways, and can be sent untreated upon request.

Once again, kudos to Amazon's delivery.. 👍🏻 About the product: Quality wise it is not the best but ya, it is pretty decent. Entire top part is green but one inch or so beneath is not usable - which I think is natural due to lighting. Cost is little high for this quantity but got it anyway for a terrarium I'm making. Over all I'm satisfied with the quality I received.👌🏻 But... It could have been cleaner.. There a lot of sticks and twigs in the moss clumps.
