I found that under the stress/bliss dichotomy was a lot of unprocessed negativity, and when that also lifted and cleared a week later, I felt cured of a lot of my chronic negative psychotic symptoms and PTSD. It is anathema to people who design poor clinical studies to use the word "cure" but I am going to fight my symptoms ever coming back, and that desire to fight for myself I consider an effective treatment (not placebo). To others doing research I point to a Pubmed.org study catalogued by NIH that in rats, cortisol in the frontal lobe was cleared/reduced in the brain by using SJW. Numerous studies show clear biological marker changes with SJW use. These are poorly understood because metabolism of the stress response is poorly mapped in living systems. However, it is believed that SJW induces a multidrug resistance transporter which clears many drugs from the system, even prescribed drugs. But this too is to your advantage - this means that SJW clears "negativity and traumatic stress" from your system, so that the emotions surface and clear also. That is why it is effective for mild to moderate depression. But I think it helps with apathy and listlessness, also, which is something they have never tried SJW for - negative psychotic symptoms. A caveat to all this positivity: some people reportedly develop "serotonin syndrome" when they use SJW and antidepressants together, so talk to your doctor and to yourself before you expect "only positive" results. I used it for 1 week only, and then no longer felt I "needed" it, drinking 1 cup per day (1 teabag per day). (I take abilify, prozac and effexor together, which are all antidepressing, with consent of my psychiatrist, and I did not develop "serotonin syndrome.") If you brew it very long, it develops a strong bitterness which is not tempered by adding sugar. I recommend you follow the instructions on the box and not overbrew it or leave the teabag in too long. (I do expect to continue using SJW any time my brain becomes overloaded by stress and negativity - but I am going to watch my stress levels from now on because it is not fun having PTSD.) Boundaries and assertiveness are not enough, you also need rest, gentleness and comfort.
