Not substantial. I love this cutter though. There is an orange one without the non stick coating with the blade protector. I like that one two. These cutters are the best. It makes breaking down boxes very manageable for a senior like me. so easy to saw right through boxes into pieces.. **Q: Do these come with a case to cover the blade when not in use?** A: No --- I use a length of PVC pipe from the Junk bin at home depot. The blade is wedged in at the bottom. This covers the whole piece except for 2 inches on the handle.
