## Description

Acousti Coat - Sound Deadening Paint - 1 Gallon - desertcart.com

Review: This product in combination with insulation beads is a great investment for any custom restoration. - This product with the installation beads I purchased allowed me a rapid easy to apply insulation for the roof of my Jeep. It is the most cost effective means of insulating against the Arizona sun and heat. It also helped take the rattle and noise out of my 30 year old XJ - Cherokee. I went 2 weeks without putting any type of foul insulation on and still had an average of 22 degrees of insulation protection ( example) 110 ambient temperature 88 in the Jeep moving into the shade. Running in the sun after 1 hour a temperature of 94 degrees in the Jeep with no AC.! These temperatures 88-94 degrees have made for a dramatic change when I added the AC in early October. I didn’t have to run the Air most of time unless during peak hours of 1pm to 4pm. The best investment I have put into my Jeep.
Review: You can change the color - you will need more than you think - So I live with someone on the spectrum who has super sensitive sound perception and it was creating a lot of difficulty, so we bought several gallons of this paint in an attempt to turn my home office/basement into a sound proof shelter. #1 you cannot just take it to Lowes and expect them to add tint - I tried, they absolutely will not do it. Neither will HD. No one wants to risk coloring 3rd party, expensive, specialty paint. They would not do it. #2 - if you research more, you will find that you cant dilute the paint by adding more liquid, or it changes the consistency of the paint - which is key to it's sound dampening effectiveness. I saw a couple of FAQ questions where people were saying to paint over it? which the manufacturer clearly states would impact the effectiveness of the paint. The paint is TEXTURED. I was not expecting that. It is VERY thick and you will need multiple gallons to cover a few walls correctly. I painted it onto a smooth wall - and your basically painting on a thick layer of paint with a sand like quality to it. The 'sand' is the "mini sound absorbing balls" or whatever. It makes sense if you think about it. They are what break up and absorb the sound supposedly. So the paint is GREAT... except you need a LOT of it. I expected 1 gallon to easily cover the 3 walls i was doing, and it ended up taking much more. The other issue is - it doesnt behave like normal paint - so you cant just do one thick first coat - and then expect your 2nd and 3rd coats to be "thinner" like you would with a standard paint. You have to lay the 2nd and 3rd coat on just as thick as the first. So I had to do a lot of research on how to tint the paint and I ended up finding this product: https://www.desertcart.com/gp/product/B00KEUH6Z8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 it comes in many colors. I was very skeptical but it was *awesome*! Worked 100% as described. I was able to tint the paint very easily. You will end up running into an issue once you tint the paint though - Since I expected 1 gallon to easily cover the walls, I didnt measure 100% accurately when I was experimenting with the tint. I was just adding tint until I reached my desired color. So when it came time to do a second coat - I ended up having a color disaster. You need to expect to use more than 1 gallon of the paint - so if you color it, you need to accurately measure how much your putting in each gallon. The paint is thick and textures, so If you dont evenly apply your second and 3rd coats of this paint - you can see every single place you did put an additional brush stroke, vs every place you didnt. This is why you need to make sure your prepared to lay your 2nd and 3rd coats just as thick as your first. I ended up having to mix 2 more gallons of paint in order to re-cover what I had done. PRO: The paint looks awesome though! We actually love the new texture.. It doesnt look strange at all. if you lay the paint on evenly - it looks really good. We consider it an improvement over the standard - smooth wall. It looks classy if done properly. Just be prepared - double or tipple the amount of paint you think you will need and if you tint it - make sure you get the *exact* same amount of tint in each can. if your off even a tiny bit - with this paint your going to be able to see the difference. We are now going to do our ceilings and I am going to end up buying 3 gallons for 1 bedroom ceiling. It doesn't behave at all like normal paint and you cant paint over it with normal paint - but if you apply it correctly, it looks great. I'm giving it 4 stars just because there is a certain technique to applying it that I wasnt aware of. Anyone with attention to detail wont have issues with it.

## Features

- Acousti-Coat is a thick, soft coating designed to act as a 'sound sponge'. Deadens sound within the area / room the sound is created in. For sound coming from other areas, use our SC 1000. Use Acousti Coat and your neighbors hear you less. Use SC 1000 and you hear your neighbors less.
- Product is designed to reduce echo and uncomfortable high frequency sounds. Ideal for home theaters, offices, meeting rooms, churches, convention areas, concert halls, etc
- Coverage is 50 square feet per gallon for the minimum two coats required. This means unless you are applying to a small 50 square foot area, one gallon isn't enough.
- ThermaCels included in this paint! This provides insulation properties as well. Do not add additional ThermaCels additive to this product.
- White Flat Finish. Can be tinted using universal colorants, to light or medium shades. If a darker color is required it can be painted over but a very cheap flat interior paint must be used. Using a high quality paint will seal the surface of the 'sound sponge' and diminish results.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: can you change the color of soundproof paint**
A: It can be tinted to light to medium colors (pastels).

**Q: I need to eliminate echo in a room. Its about a 10x10 room and the walls are thick concrete. Will this work?**
A: This will work extremely well at diminishing echo. That is what this product was originally formulated to do. Complete elimination is almost impossible and extremely expensive (think recording studio), but minimizing sound is a perfect use for this coating.

**Q: How many square feet will a gallon cover?**
A: Hello. Coverage is 100-150 square feet per gallon, depending on surface texture, for each coat. Two coats minimum are needed for best results. We recommend more coats instead of very thick coats because an overly thick coating won't dry evenly. This can affect adhesion. This product, however, should not be stretched out 'thin' like regular paint. Keep the roller full.

**Q: Can this paint be taken to a paint store to mix a special color?**
A: Yes it can. It is considered a 'white base' so it can only be tinted to light to medium colors.
We suggest using half the formula for the color you want, as they can always add more to get the exact match.

### ⭐⭐⭐ It’s actually 50 sq foot per can not 100 sq foot.
*by J***A on July 2, 2021*

I live in NYC and my building has thin walls and floors, to say the least and it can get loud… to cut down the noise I purchased the product, however it’s 100 sq foot per can is misleading, especially when at the bottom of the page with information states to reach full potential one can should be used for 50 sq foot sections ( that statement should be at the very top of the page). I bought two cans for 192.5 sq feet and it barely did anything for the noise… however I did start to notice the difference as I was putting it up, it’s hard to explain but I did feel like the noise has been cut down slightly…. Rolled on one super thick coat and then a light one, I think brushing it works better because of the way the product is, I would recommend spraying it on for the best results to be honest… I’m buying another two can to go for max efficiency, hopefully I get the bang for my buck it cost me 200 bucks on just the 4 cans and I still have another 120 sq foot room to go… if it not happy with the results I’ll be trying another product… one other thing I found confusing is the multiple products like the thermal-cell additive and the sci1000 it should state in the details and info page if these are stand alone products and if they need to be used in support of each other… I’m pretty sure it’s a standalone the reassurance would be nice…
