Portion for the rear of the speaker directs the back waves into the large foam portion that helps absorb them. Sometimes the metal of your door can reflect these waves back through the speakers and make them sound muddy, echoing, or hollow. They work well in conjunction with dynamat. Review: The 2 baffles that go around the speaker work great and I can tell a difference - The 2 baffles that go around the speaker work great and I can tell a difference. About a month after I installed it I pulled one of the door panels off to go back and add some dynomat and I noticed the interior baffle that adheres to the sheet metal behind the speaker magnet was just laying in the door. it had come off. I checked the other door and the same thing. So just be aware of that. I did prep the surface too and it still happened. I'd say the 2 baffles that go over and behind the spearker are def. worth it.
