## Description

Ferrocerium Rod Length:6"(15.3cm) Diameter: 1/2"(12.7mm) Material: Ferrocerium Diameter of the hole: 4mmHOW TO USE: 1. Hold the ferro rod close to the tinder at about a 45-degree angle. （dead grass or weeds, fine, dry wood shavings, twine pulled apart, dryer lint or cotton balls… all make good tinder.）2. Place the scraper near the top of the rod (so it makes solid contact with the rod). 3. Pull the rod back (away from the tinder) with a slow and steady motion. Tip: Many people will hold the ferro rod next to the tinder and rub the scraper toward the tinder. By pulling the rod back (instead of rubbing the scraper forward) you’ll create a spark at the same place. But you’ll do it without risking bumping the scraper into your pile of tinder and scattering it all over the place. PLEASE NOTE: Because Ferro rods contain iron, they’re often coated to prevent oxidation. You’ll need to scrape away the coating to expose shiny metal before first use.

**Q: How many strikes is this rated up to?**
A: This is a very large rod comparing with others. The diameter is 1/2 inch. It's 6 inch long. As you can see, LMF's firesteel 2.0 fire starter(3/8" x 3 3/4") Lasts 12,000 strikes. The volume of this rod is almost 3 times of the LMF's firesteel 2.0 fire starter. So in the same condition, the rod lasts about 36,000 strikes.

**Q: How is the quality on these?  Do they give out good sparks?**
A: This things throws a shower of sparks. Used this during a 8 day camping trip with no matches or lighter to start all our fires. Never had any issues starting any and definitely recommend getting this one. It’s nice that it has the striker hooked on to it so they don’t get separated but if so a good quality high carbon knife works well too.

**Q: How does it perform compared to the smaller (3.14 inch length)Bayite Ferrocerium Ferro Rod pack of 3 ???**
A: The smallest Bayite Rod I've used is the 4"x3/8" and it produced about 50% of the sparks of the larger rods.  In a pinch, the extra $5 for the 5" or 6"X1/2" unit is probably the best $5 I'll ever spend.  It's also the reason I hunt with a 12 gauge instead of a .410.
