Once removed, you'll need pliers to hold both the nut end and the metal washer end. It takes a little coordination and some "english" to tighten it down sufficiently, but when you get it correct the rubber grommets will "expand" to provide a tight fit into the ends of the legs. It took me a few attempts before I "got it", but this style of caster is very strong once installed properly. You'll see these on all commercial grade stainless prep tables.
