It's so good that I actually bought myself one immediately after we received it! The ball sticks well into the glove - it did advertise that it didn't need breaking in but I'd been sceptical. I see it comes in many sizes - we both got 12.5 as he's got a very big 12 year old hand and I have a very big but slim lady's hand. The thumb part adjusts well with velcro to tighten and loosen so you've got a fair bit of leeway in the size for growing room- it won't fall off if too big if you tighten the thumb loop. It is fake leather so gets sweaty quickly but is doing the job well so far with good sticking power. An infielder is going to use a smaller 11-11.5” glove because it’s easier to get it from the mitt and into their hand to make a quicker throw. But if you’re playing catch with your kid, that isn’t a factor. Most gloves are 12” and it’ll work fine for pretty much anything unless your hand is either really small or really big. **Q: How Do You Soften This?** A: The old way was to put 3 balls in the pocket, use a rope to secure it and dunk it in a bucket of water overnight. Let it dry for a few days then use shave cream with Lanolin in it and slather it on liberally. The 14" size is for sure geared more for softball due to its size. The 13" would be geared for a baseball outfielder or for softball again. The smaller sizes 12.5, and 12" are definitely geared more for baseball, but for sure could be used for softball. The bottom line is this a great backyard, recreational glove to play catch with or use for some recreational baseball or softball and it is more important to get the size that fits your hand size.
