We're continually learning new things about it, such as the number plate that hangs under our mailbox actually has lights, but all four had blown out before we took ownership. After discovering this, we immediately started scouring the web for replacement bulbs, etc. We discovered the bulb type was a 1487 Mini Indicator Lamp (T3.25 Bulb), with a miniature screw base. We checked a local big box store and found a package with one bulb for $2. After looking on Amazon, we found the Eiko 10-pack for $6.19 at the time. It was a no-brainer. One difference I noticed is the big box bulb (while rated at the same 14 volts) was rated at 1.5 watts. The Eiko is rated at 2.8 watts. Honestly, I wanted something somewhat bright anyway so the numbers could be seen from the street. So, I decided to give the Eiko's a shot. I'm glad I did, as they worked perfectly.Of note, for our lighted housing, there is no on/off switch -- i.e., the bulbs are tied, somehow to the low-voltage doorbell line (I know this, as when you press the doorbell button, the bulbs dim somewhat), and, as such, are on all the time. So, a low-voltage rating is important, due to the line running off a low-voltage transformer in the basement. Keep in mind, the bulbs are 14 volts, rated for 3K hours (125 days) and 2.8 watts each. So, (at least for our fixture, which has four bulbs) we're burning 11.2 watts per hour, or 268.8 watts a day. To put it in perspective, this is akin to running an old 75-watt incandescent bulb, continuously, for a little over three hours, daily. Now, there is an LED T 3 and 1/4 screw-in bulb that burns only .72 watts (however, it's 24 volts ***and $16 for two****. However, the average lifespan is 100K hours):Β  (Pack of 2) 24 Volt.T3 ΒΌ Miniature Screw (E10) LED Light Bulb 0.72 Watt Color Warm White . I'll be honest when I say I don't know whether my transformer can handle 4 24-volt LEDs, in addition to the doorbell. I'm no electrician and need to research the issue further. Also, I haven't looked that close at our transformer to figure out its rating. For now, I simply wanted the bulbs to work, for a decent price.I get what I need from the Eiko's and would have no issue purchasing them again in the future. Of course, if I have a reason to change my review, I'll do so ASAP. If there is an electrician out there, if you can weigh in on the LED bulb, that would be wonderful.
