I use this mat when I take close up photographs of evidence I have collected from fires. The blue colored back ground works perfectly for most of the items I photograph, but the main reason I purchased it was because of the measurement scales that are imprinted on it. Prior to purchasing this item I would use a blue cloth as a background for my evidence photographs and would then have to add a photo scale (ruler). The mat is very heavy duty and easily wipes clean when I am done. A Great Product !!! It's truly self healing, but lightweight so it's fairly portable in terms of ability to move it without assist or risk of pulling something. I would have liked one a little larger since I use it on my cutting table for making quilts (hint hint Quilting Bee) : )Another feature I love is how clear the markings are, and unlike most mats, this has the same number at both ends of the mat, so if you're at 4 at the bottom you're also at 4 at the top. Makes it much easier to see if you have moved the ruler at all.
