This wrap does retain heat, but I did not pay too much attention to the filling. This filling makes this wrap very heavy on the neck and shoulders. This heaviness restricts movement of the neck and adds to the pain. Thought it would be like my old one, which was battery operated for warmth and massage and made of simple velour, making it light and comfortable. The other feature that is better than all my other ones is the elastic loop that holds the opposite end, so that you can make it as snug as you'd like, and it stays put!
