We got this corner ledge because Asklepios, our fat male ratto kept falling off his narrower ledges when he'd fall asleep on them lol! So far so good with this one! He likes smooshing himself in the top corner of the cage on this platform and its sufficiently large enough that he can curl into his ball-formation and not fall off. I own pet rats and the shelves can easily accommodate two adult-sized rats. I found them useful for filling in those top corners in your cage, above or below the hammocks. The reason for the four stars is that, like any wood product, the shelves absorb urine and will take time to clean. I let mine air dry for 5-7 hours before they're ready to be put back inside.
