## Description

From the manufacturer 85mm F1.4 Redefining the ClassicMark a new chapter of the Art line F1.4 in the mirrorless age. The 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art combines a clear and delicate rendering performance, which is requisite for portrait photography, with beautiful, rich bokeh effects only possible with lenses such as a large-diameter F1.4, at a level that will satisfy both professional and advanced amateur photographers. The focal length of 85mm and significant bokeh effect at F1.4 brightness allow the users’ subjects to stand out in a complementary fashion, which is one of the essences of taking portrait photography, so users can enjoy it to the fullest. In addition to the fast and consistent AF response, the mirrorless-exclusive design of the 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art has realized a lightweight and compact lens body that defies convention. And its small body is packed with a range of functionalities, including a dust- and splash-proof structure, supported by an excellent build quality. The 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art is SIGMA's new “ultimate portrait lens” for the mirrorless age. And with it, SIGMA proposes a whole new world of possibilities provided by this “85mm F1.4 lens for everyday use,” thanks to the unprecedented level of portability, free from size- or weight-related limitations. Mark a new chapter of the Art line F1.4 in the mirrorless age. Dust- and splash-proof structure This lens features a highly effective dust- and splash-proof structure with special sealing at the mount connection, manual focus ring, zoom ring, and cover connection, allowing photographers to work in all types of weather. Water- and oil-repellent coating In addition to the dust- and splash-proof structure, along with a water- and oil-repellent coating, the lens uses materials such as aluminum and TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) where they are best suited, achieving a level of build quality that is worthy of the Art line. In addition to the durability of the body, the lens pursues quality in terms of how users “feel” as well, such as the smooth motion in which each ring or switch works, and the precise hand feeling. The 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art helps ensure users a smooth shooting experience in every condition. De-clickable iris ring for video The Iris ring is mounted with a de-click function for removing clicks by the *2 Iris Ring Click Switch, enabling seamless operations that are especially useful such as during video shooting. FRONT CAP LCF Ⅲ 77mm REAR CAP LCR Ⅱ SOFT LENS CASE Compatible with Lens Aberration Correction Matching the optical characteristics of the lens, this function performs in-camera corrections of peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations, distortion, and more, to further enhance image quality. * Function available on supported cameras only. Available corrections may vary depending on the camera model. SIGMA WR CERAMIC PROTECTOR 77mm (OPTIONAL) With many applications in aerospace and other industries, glass ceramic is an extremely tough type of crystallized glass that serves as the foundation for Clear Glass Ceramic. While featuring the high transmittance required of optical devices, this advanced new material combines greater hardness than chemically strengthened glass and greater flexibility than sapphire crystal glass. These qualities make Clear Glass Ceramic the ideal material for protective lens filters. Made in Japan All Sigma products, lenses, cameras and flash units are manufactured exclusively by Sigma in Sigma’s own factory in Aizu, Japan. No Sigma Corporation product – lens, camera or flash – is manufactured outside of Japan. This is very unusual these days, as most companies have at least some of their products produced outside of Japan because of cost considerations. There's a reason why SIGMA continues to insist on the very highest quality in its product manufacturing: our love of photography is second to none. We deeply appreciate the photographer's desire to record and express—the passion of the photographer.

Review: Sharp, lightweight, and great for portraits - I’ve been using this lens on my Sony full frame camera for about a week now, mainly for portraits and a bit of low light work, and it honestly impressed me more than I expected. The first thing I noticed is the build. It feels solid straight away, but not overly heavy like some older f1.4 lenses I’ve used before. It strikes a really good balance where it feels premium without making the camera setup tiring to hold for long shoots. The materials feel high quality and the mount is sturdy, so I don’t see this wearing out anytime soon. Handling is actually one of my favorite things about it. It doesn’t feel front heavy on a mirrorless body, which makes a big difference when you’re shooting for longer periods. I was expecting it to be bulkier, but it’s surprisingly manageable for what it offers. The controls are also well thought out. The aperture ring feels great to use and having the option to make it smooth for video is a nice touch. I didn’t think I’d care about the lock switch at first, but it’s actually useful because I’ve accidentally knocked aperture rings on other lenses before. The custom button is a bonus and works as expected. Image quality is where this lens really stands out. Shooting wide open at f1.4 is completely usable, which isn’t always the case with lenses this fast. It’s sharp, and the background blur looks clean and smooth without any weird artifacts. I also didn’t notice any major fringing, even in harsher lighting situations, which was a nice surprise. If I had to point out one downside, it would be the lack of image stabilization. On my Sony body it’s not really an issue because of IBIS, but if your camera doesn’t have that, you’ll need to be a bit more careful when shooting at slower shutter speeds. Overall, this feels like a very easy lens to recommend. It gives you that high end look with strong build quality and great performance, without going into the price range of some of the native options. If you shoot portraits or anything in low light, this is definitely worth considering.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The perfect portrait lens!
*by M***N on 14 February 2023*

This is my favorite pirtrait lens for my Sony a7 IV! I love the sharpness and the fast AF! Oh, and the bokeh that comes from it is dope!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 95% G Master Quality, 50% of the Price
*by C***E on 18 October 2024*

Pros: Image quality out of this thing is beautiful. Bokeh rendering is stunning. So creamy. This lens is sharp wide open. Looks great. Flaring/ghosting is super well controlled for an 85 1.4 lens. It's definitely a step up from the older sigma art 85 1.4 in just about every way. I love that they are including aperture rings on their newer lens, and they're implementation is really pro. Cons: While lighter than the OG Sigma 85 1.4, this lens is definitely still heavier than the new GM 85 1.4 II. You will notice it. Now the biggest con to this lens, and it is still barely a con for most photographers and videographers, is going to be the AF speed. Don't get it twisted, this lens focus' really well in most situations. It's only when you have fast moving subjects or a subject wearing glasses where you start to see the difference between this lens and modern first party Sony lens'. Based on my experience, I would say this lens actually probably focuses about on par, or maybe a little bit better than the original Sony 85 1.4 GM, but is noticeably slower than the Sony 85 1.4 GM II. If you are shooting portraits, landscapes, still life, or lifestyle then you'll never notice these limitations. But once you start trying to shoot athletics, sports, kids running around, you will start to notice your hit rate drop a bit. In Summary: Technically the Sony 85 1.4 GM II has superior image quality. In reality, you will not notice the difference ever. This lens is very sharp, and actually performs better than the original GM lens that was incredibly popular for years. Unless you are planning to shoot sports with your 85mm... which I've done, but there are better lenses for that specific job even if the new G Master is capable of keeping up... then I can totally recommend this Sigma Art lens. I've included a few sample images I took when this lens first came in.
