They have to be between 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 inch apart and facing towards the rider. Th cup ring is 3 1/4 inches for the standard and 4 1/4 inches around for the BA size and about 5 1/4 inches deep. It too no time at all to install on my VTX 1300 and it fits any 12 oz can to my big 40 oz tumbler cup with no issues and it grips well. It looks great as an add on so I have no complaints. Other people like a swivel but I feel like if I had one that did I'd throw my cup out at the turns I do. On top of all that I can take it off and put it on any other bike if I got another.
