First, they're easy to put on, with the front opening right up and letting the hoof go straight in. Getting the right size is key, there shouldn't be any pushing or pulling needed to get them on, unlike old style poultice boots. They're also easy to fasten with Velcro tabs, which also makes it easy to get them off. In this case, they were used over a shoe. Took a couple of walks to get used to the extra height, but the long had no bother when turned out in a grassy field - trotted up and down hill without bother, and the boots stayed on through rolls, bucks and gallops. They also didn't get pulled off by thick mud in the field bottom, and drained off after he went in the river for a drink. They seem to be hard wearing, but without being too heavy, though as he had a shoe that will wear them out faster than unshod. They certainly grip well on different surfaces, and have a fairly aggressive tread pattern.
