Why the thing didn't come with a back light is beyond me. Anyway, I mounted the base of this light with three screws to the bike monitor. Raising and lowering the light itself helps get the view right for different peoples' height and their angle of view. The LED extends 'out' away from the upper plastic so the light is visible from all sides and is very bright. You won't have a problem with reading anything but it might bother the neighbors if you have the shade up. It takes 2 AAA batteries (not included) that are easily accessed through the blue cover you see in the photo. I have now had this item in use for about 8 months and it is still performing flawlessly even with my young grandkids snapping it open and closed while playing on the stationary bike. Bottom Line: I previously gave it a four because I'm not using it for a book light but, because it is still going strong, it is a fair price, and it does work very well for my stationary bike I have upgraded it to 5 stars. I believe I have seen this item at the local big box store but ordering it here was about as seamless a purchase as anyone could hope for. Review: The lights are great! - My wife and I love these! The book light clips to the back or front cover or several pages and hinges closer or further from the page. A lot of book lights take "pill" batteries that are fairly expensive and not as readily available as AAAs. Though some might like a telescopic head on their light, so as to better position the light source, I've found that the hinge action of this light is functional enough. The light dims a little as the batteries weaken, but I use rechargable AAAs and always have a new set on hand. Whatever batteries you use, they last a tremendously long time running only one LED light. The plastic casing and slide for the battery compartment are fairly cheaply made, but not any more so than I would have expected. I've purchased these for friends and myself and have had no negative comments. If I ever damage mine (which I've been using for about three years) I'll be buying another.
