In order to foster and encourage biodegradation, we've added a tiny amount of material to our plastic during manufacturing. Once the glasses are discarded, the additive's unique chemistry will attract hungry microbes to the surface of the glasses, and the bacteria will break them down to humus within a fraction of the time required to break down untreated plastic. Don't worry, unless you live 10 feet underground, with your head stuck in the dirt, our safety glasses won't begin to disintegrate until they are buried in a landfill. Decade Bio safety glasses meet the ANSI Z87.1-2010 (high impact) eyewear standard with tough polycarbonate frames and lenses to protect eyes from debris injury. The glasses provide 99.9% protection from UVA and UVB radiation and have a scratch-resistant coating.

Chase Ergonomics 70100 DECADE Bio Sosa Series Eyewear with Clear Frame / Clear Lenses feature comfortable, lightweight frames with durable hinges. The lenses are treated with a scratch-resistant coating, and provide 99.9-Percent protection from UVA and UVB radiation. The entire unit is treated to promote and enhance biodegradation of the product. Constructed of bio-enhanced polycarbonate plastic, new Decade Bio(TM) safety glasses meet the updated ANSI Z87.1-2010 Impact Rated eyeware standard. In ongoing testing, our safety glasses were found to biodegrade an average of 12.4-Percent in the first 165 days under conditions simulating a biologically-active landfill, using the ASTM D5511 test. Each pair of the traditional, fully-framed style glasses comes packaged in a biodegradable pouch made of corn starch. Actual biodegration rates vary in landfills according to moisture level. Present tests at 45-Percent solids content are representative of wetter landfills, such as the Pacific northwest ot southeastern US. ASTM D5511 specifies "This test method may also resemble some onditions in biologically active landfills where the gas generated is recovered and biogas production is even actively promoted."
