Both the addition of new classes, new weapon system, my castle, and returning features come together to provide an entertaining game. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you can get it for retail, the special edition is the definitive edition! At the moment, I'm about 10 hours in. I put about 2 hours into the introduction that is the same with all 3 games. Then I have about 3 hours in Conquest and 5 hours in Birthright. I'll update more when I get futher, but I really don't expect my rating to change. I've played every fire emblem game since the Gamecube and have really enjoyed the series.I've decided to review the game and not the scalpers. This retails for $80. The fact that so many scalpers are selling it day one for three times the cost says something bad about both greedy people and Nintendo for just not making enough.~=+/Versions\+=~This special edition is long since sold out. I hope Nintendo does another printing, but who knows. I thankfully preordered the special edition early on. The special edition has all three versions on one cart. The special edition also comes with a case and a art book. The case isn't anything special and the artbook is just an art book. It's all three games on one physical cart that makes it worth it.Now if you buy the special edition, you get all three versions for $80. But you can also buy Conquest or Birthright and get the other digital version for $20 (discounted if you own the other of the two). Then revelation is $20. So you can get all three for $80 without getting the special edition. I just don't like that the download versions are stuck to the 3ds you download them on. The only way to move downloaded games from one 3DS to another is a system transfer and then you can only move all the games from one 3DS to another--you can't just move Fire Emblem if you have other downloads! I don't want to have to give my system to my wife for her to be able to play the same game as me!All three versions are full Fire Emblem games. So the special edition is like three games for $80. The main game for all three versions have 27 chapters, a prologue, and an end game. BUT the prologue and the the first 5 chapters are exactly the same in all three games. The good is that this lets you not have to play the early introductory game over and over again, but the bad news is that almost a quarter of the game is the same in each game.In this special edition you can chose any of the three storylines in the sixth chapter. They really suggest you do revelation last. Conquest and Birthright can be played in any order, but Birthright is easier and the order to play is really: Birthright, Conquest, then Revelation.If you are playing one game, you get a full game's content. Since you can get all three games for $80, you get much more than twice a normal game for twice what one game costs even with the overlap.~=+/Gameplay\+=~It's a pretty hardcore strategy RPG. Birthright is a bit easier. You can grind if you get stuck. You can't really get stuck. For me, it's where I start. Conquest is hard. You can't replay levels to grind. You can screw up but think you're still ok but then find out that you can't beat a later level because you lost guys earlier... Save often! I'm not sure where Revelation falls and I'm trying to not read spoilers on it.In battles there's still a rock/paper/scissors thing going on with the weapons, but the weapons are paired off. Sword and magic beats axe and bow beats lance and small blades beats swords and magic. So things are very alike previous Fire Emblem games but there's differences. Support has a couple of new twists.You get a castle as your home base that you can build up and expand. It's an expanded version of the barracks in Awakening. But there's a lot of changes here. It's a place where you equip your guys between missions. The support conversations happen here and are more organic since you walk up to people talking and there's the conversation. You can build buildings and set the graphical style. It can get invaded, so how you build is important. You can visit and invade other people's castles! You sometimes battle people here and it's where the Amiibo battles happen. It feels a lot the same on both Conquest and Birthright, so I wonder if it will seem as interesting by the time I've built up a castle the third time in Revelation...I think Awakening had enough new that it was a amazing and new. This is more an evolution off Awakening, but it's a good enough evolution that it's not just more of the same. Awakening really let you pick in game the gameplay type of more casual or more hardcore. Here if you're not getting the special edition or more than one, you have to pick Birthright for more casual or Conquest for more hardcore.~=+/Story\+=~The first couple hours are pretty introductory, but the story has really brought you to where it's a real decision of which way you want the story to go. It feels more epic--especially knowing that you're going to be able to see both sides of the war if you play both Birthright and Conquest. That makes it sad about the non-special edition. It feels like you're supposed to be picking a side and you can't without the special edition (or buying the other side digitally). It also feels more melodrama than Awakening.After playing a few hours after the the choice of path-lines in chapter 6, I found it too confusing to try and play on Birthright and conquest at the same time. Some characters follow you either way but there's a whole other big supporting cast. I think I'm going to follow Birthright to the end and then take on Conquest. Then I'll still have Revelation. Basically I won't need another 3DS game till I die...~=+/Graphics\+=~There's only one thing to say. They have feet! The graphics are about the best the 3DS has to offer. The videos are really well done. I like the graphics more than Fire Emblem Awakening.~=+/Conclusion\+=~It's not a lighthearted strategy game. There's a lot of game no matter which version you get. I can't offer a comprehensive review in two days, but I don't see any reason why this isn't a buy for a fan of the series. You could buy a brand new 3DS for this. And I mean a new one. Maybe if the three games were actually THREE games rather three versions different paths; but as it is, I don't think so. The Legend of Zelda Oracle games did it right, but it seems other companies can only see dollar signs. And shame on Nintendo for holding the true ending hostage like this. I didn't like it when Capcom did that with Asura's Wrath, and I still think it's terrible business to do it here.Edit: So apparently many people attest that the games are different enough to be counted as three games unto themselves. My review stands. Removing the true ending for a game so it can be sold as DLC kills it's rating, no matter how good it is.
