The heavy base keeps it in one spot and doesn’t get knocked over. Most importantly doesn’t need sand or water in it so it’s easy to clean.Just with the top was also metal since people like to put out their cigs on the top and it has burn marks on it now. The craftsmanship of this product is fantastic. I was concerned about emptying it as the base does not open and you have to empty it through the hole that the tube connects to. The nice thing about the seemingly inconvenient feature is that there are no seams that will allow oxygen to enter the canister hence denying burning cigarette butts oxygen. I keep this one on my patio. I may buy another one for the front porch. I think that the negative reviews on this product are flukes. I rarely leave reviews and the fact that I am leaving a review on a cigarette disposal contraption speaks volumes.
