I used to get some taste like steak** A: The hickory flavor is more smoky/spicy than sweet, but there is some barbecue-style sweetness. Try the dill flavor, if you want more of a sour/tangy profile. The hotter varieties aren't overpoweringly spicy, but enough to offset sweetness. None of the ones we tried are quite "just plain steak". All were pretty good to our tastes. If you want a sugar-free "just meat" flavor, Mission Meats sells some "Original Grass Fed Jerky" that's very tasty, if a little pricey. All of them are plenty high sodium, of course.
