I use it to hand cut dovetails. Still looks great, so I would say it is holding up well. **Q: Where is this made? Thank you.** A: I checked their website and they don't publish where the products are manufactured or any useful information about their company. Beware that some items sold in Amazon are made in China but have German sounding names to draw customers, doesn't mean it's made in Germany. I can't find country of origin, "Wood is Good" brand that is made in the USA for just a few dollars more if you are looking for known USA products. I personally ended up buying the Wood is Good one because I couldn't locate anything on origin of manufacture of Schaaf tools. **Q: Could this mallet be used with a froe, to split shingles? I’m wondering if its sturdy and large enough** A: I think so. The material around the head should protect the mallet and it is heavy enough that I would think it would work. I have not split shingles but I do carve wood and it is heavy enough to split off wood using a chisel. **Q: I've only ever used a wooden mallet. How does this compare with the urethane head?** A: I like the urethane head better than a wooden head. The urethane head doesn’t “jump around” (move out of place) on the head of my chisel as much as a wooden mallet would. The beveled head takes a few minutes to get used to, but after that it’s the way to go. This is a solid, well-made mallet. Highly recommend. ## Frequently Bought Together - Precision Wood Carving Mallet, 15oz Chisel Mallet for Woodworking, Comfortable Wooden Mallet Handle Reduces Hand Fatigue, Non-Marring Urethane Head Protects Tools, Chisel Hammer from Schaaf Tools - Schaaf Wood Carving Tools Set of 12 Chisels with Canvas Case | Wood Carving Chisels with Razor Sharp CR-V 60 Steel Blades - Schaaf Wood Carving Tools Set of 7 | Chisel set with Canvas Case | Gouges and Carving Chisels Set for Beginners and Professionals | Razor Sharp CR-V 60 Steel Blades | Woodcarving Tools Set --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.tn/products/267014585-schaaf-wood-carving-tools-12oz-small-wooden-mallet-ergonomic-wood](https://www.desertcart.tn/products/267014585-schaaf-wood-carving-tools-12oz-small-wooden-mallet-ergonomic-wood) --- *Product available on Desertcart Tunisia* *Store origin: TN* *Last updated: 2026-10-01*
