We have used this product for several years in our home and have not had any problems with odor, residue on furniture surfaces or pet reactions to the proper use of this product. We evaporate 5-7 gallons of water a day through our system and have never had an issue with Essick Air Bacteriostatic Treatment. **Q: Aircare cust service: does the chemical dissolved in the bacteriostat solution evaporate into the air with the water or does it stay on the filter?** A: Essick Air Humidifier bacteriostatic is made up mostly of chlorine products. As water evaporates through the filters, small amounts of chemical may end up as deposits on the filter but the majority of the deposits are calcium from the water. The chlorine evaporates with the water, just like chlorine does in a swimming pool. I have never had any skin issues handling the old filters when replacing them.
