### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars

Great Poicephalus Book in general, not just for Senegals.

*by S***R on Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2012*

I just finished reading this book because I have a Brown-headed Poicephalus. There's hardly any info out there about Brown-heads that are kept as pets because most people keep Senegals, Meyers or Jardines. Since this book was named Senegal Parrot AND ITS FAMILY, I had high hopes it would include some Brown-head info also. I was NOT disappointed. It's got loads of useful data on ALL the Poicephalus that are kept in the U.S.This book is awesome. It goes over all the parrots in Poicephalus and lets you know any traits that are unique to any of them, as well as differences needed in diets among them, their behavioral tendencies (which can be quite different amongst them) and what to expect in terms of issues each one is known for. This isn't your typical 80 pages that are filled up with pictures and very little data. This book is packed with info, has great pictures and great examples and quotes from many different experts in terms of Poicephalus.I'm so happy I purchased this book and will be using it as a reference tool for many years to come.

Excellent Book on the Poicephallus Family of Parrots

*by T***E on Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2010*

I found thing book very helpful in increasingly my knowledge on the Poicephallus family of African Parrots. We have recently added a baby Jardine Parrot to our family and the book helped us with several important decisions we had to make. There aren't too many books about Poicephallus out there, I reccomend this book to anyone thinking of buying a Poicephallus family parrot. Although the Senegal Parrot is the most common of the group, other members of the family have definite pluses to them, and this book covers those birds as well in great detail. The book also has many very nice photos and was recent updated and is in it's 2nd edition.

Good info about the Senegal Parrot

*by L***Y on Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2016*

Normally I research an animal's breed before giving it a home. I'd thought though because I've experience with Conures, Amazon parrots and Macaws, certainly the Senegal parrot would be the same thing only not as loud or costly to house and feed. These little African parrots have some idiosyncrasies that the Amazon birds don't have, and vice versa. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but certainly something a person may not want to be surprised with. I recently adopted a Senegal from someone who had him since he was a baby. There are a lot of good things about this bird, but there are a few things that I wasn't sure how to go about training out of him, thus the purchase of this book. Holy mackerel, now I realize that all the good stuff about this bird's personality were the result of his previous owner doing right by him, and the stuff I'd wanted to train out of him are pretty much what most Senegals are naturally like. Knowing the personality of a Senegal can help you decide if that's the kind of bird personality you want to live with for a lot of years. The main reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because though the title does indicate "And Its Family" there was a bit too much space taken up with pictures and info about birds in the Poicephalus family other than the Senegal, though not enough information for those who need to know more about the Meyers, Jardines, and other Poicephalus parrots.
