I don't know how I would measure whether it goes to or beyond the specified speeds. **Q: why would one want to buy this over DEWALT-DC970K ? Maybe I asked DeWalt for help. I bought two of the DC9180 lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion seemed like the better choice for use in my DeWalt drill, my DeWalt vacuum (DC515), and my DeWalt battery charger (DC9320). Amazingly, the instruction manual for the drill does not say anything about the proper battery. But it does mention batteries in the section about product warranty. It says that there is two years's worth of free service on these battery packs: DC9071, DC9091, DC9096, DC9180, DC9280, and DC9360.
