When the carriage has carried the page all the way to the left, the only way to get it back to the right to begin the next line of type is to physically shove it from left to right. It's infinitely easier and faster to push from left to right with the left hand than it would be to pull from left to right with the right hand. **Q: Why is this so expensive?
