Each piece screws into the other. This really makes this curtain rod very sturdy. I needed about 100 inches and had to buy the one that was "up to" 140 inches (If I remember correctly). I did have extra pieces which isn't a bad idea in the event that something happens to any of the ones I am using. With the 100 inches, I only needed 3 of the 4 mounting brackets. It's pretty solid and I'm 100% happy with my purchase. Review: Nothing wrong with the product - Uhhhhhhm so where to begin. This product is perfectly fine. the pieces screw in together. the curtain hangs on it. it is incredibly unlikely to break and looks like the product pictures. the pieces are broken down in to set lengths so if you want longer or shorter you can just take a pole out. Obviously, this means you are not getting the perfect fit 90% of the time. You're buying like the cheapest curtain rods on desertcart so wtf do you expect. but it works legitimately perfectly and all i did was just install the hooks a bit wider than my window size so now it looks like my window is slightly wider. Does me no harm. I love that the brackets extend out to 4” or more to allow for larger blinds. They were easy to put up. The rod itself can in 4 pieces (1 shorter than the others) to screw into each other for the desired width.
