Review: Perfect Freeview Box - I bought this Oakcastle SB110 Set Top Box for the TV I have in a bedroom mainly for the ability to pause live TV. I set it up very easily, it took me about 20 minutes all in, thats connecting to TV, powering up and tuning in all the channels. I had no problems with the tuning and it receives all my regular channels. I had a spare 32GB USB Stick which it recognised straight off. I don't imagine I will be doing any Timed Recordings but I did test that facility without a problem, the Live Pause / TimeShift works perfectly well. The only downside for me personally is the buttons on the remote are very small and my eyesight isn't all that good however after a few weeks of use I should get to know the layout of the remote buttons by touch. Overall I am extremely pleased with the Oakcastle SB110 Set Top Box and for the price it is extremely good value for money.

It is compatible with a 500 GB Bipra U3 portable external hard drive which provides all the recording capacity I need.

**Q: Is the usb port powerful enough to operate a usb3 external drive that doesn't need a power supply? ?**
A: Normally I`ve got a usb stick plugged in purely for recording one off programmes. However, in response to your question I have just plugged in a Seagate 2TB USB 3 drive to it and it played the videos I have stored on it and were from a variety of sources and different file resolutions and in MP4 Format.

**Q: Can you record with any usb stick or do you need particular ones?**
A: According to the manual, you can use upto 1 terrabyte of external storage. I use a 16gb memory stick and because I only use it for occasional recording find it adequate for my needs.  The last recording I did was 1 hour and fifty minutes long and took up about 2.75 gb of space.

**Q: I have connected usb but message on screen is no**
A: Your using a non compatable usb memory stick? Probably to slow or its format needs to be fat32 perhaps. New usb memory cards are not formatted in fat16,fat32 or NTFS usually exfat, for windows or mac, but not these devices.

**Q: Will this product receive saorview channels broadcast from the republic of ireland, as well as u.k. freeview?**
A: U.K. freeview definitely not sure on Republic of Ireland broadcast may be possible if you select country location as Ireland

I bought this Oakcastle SB110 Set Top Box for the TV I have in a bedroom mainly for the ability to pause live TV. Bought for my son along with a new aerial, as he had just moved into a new flat. He isn’t really confident at things like setting up TVs but this was so easy for him to do. He reported that it took seconds to set up, a few minutes to scan channels and he now has a perfect picture with all freeview channels. The actual item was so tiny i was amazed, as my old freeview box is twice the size! But small works great! Very pleased.
