We tried just about everything to help ease her anxiety, but nothing was working. I was skeptical about pheromone sprays, but got this in June 2022 to at least try. I was also skeptical the first time I used it because to me it smells similar to rubbing alcohol when I initially apply the spray, but that smell goes away after a few minutes and is then odorless. The difference that this spray has made for her anxiety has been incredible. When it starts to storm or fireworks start going off, I spray 8-10 squirts of this onto a bandana for her to wear. In as little as 5-10 minutes she is calmer, and the effects for her last for hours. I sometimes have to re-spray the bandana, but usually just one application is enough to get us through the anxiety causing event. Before we started using the spray she would be inconsolable during these times- hiding, intense shaking, and panting that was similar to hyperventilation. I wonder if I just paid way too much for 35 cents worth of rubbing alcohol.** A: It does smell like alcohol for the first few minutes. It says that in the instructions though. You are supposed to spray it 15 minutes prior to exposing your dog to it. Worked great for my black lab when she is crated for a longer stretch. She stays much calmer now and seems a let less anxious when I return. Like the spray for her bed much better than the plug in. At home I used it and it DOES calm down my dog. The one I bought this for I would spray on her pillow (allowed to dry) when I would need to crate her she definitely calmed down. My older dog I am sure could smell it also because even he calmed down. She has had a history of throwing up in the car, even after a short drive. I had to make a journey over 2 days where there was lots of driving, ferry travel, 80 people to meet etc. I sprayed her towel in her car bed before leaving. She did not throw up once, just was chilled and dealing well with the new situations. She was not skittish with people as usual, but was greeting and kissing everyone, playing with little kids etc. She made big positive impression. She was ready to come home but not pacing at all which was often the case. Same thing on the return, sprayed her towel and she settled right in. The loud noises on the ferry and the many car alarms going off seemingly had no negative effect, no shaking, she just snoozed. I could not be happier after looking so hard for the cure! I have to say that the two weeks leading up to this trip I also gave her CBD oil, so it may have contributed to success, but I did not notice such a positive improvement until the Adaptil.
